Geographic location and natural resources

Hai Duong located in the centre of the Northern Delta of The Red River, belongs to the Northern key economic triangle of Ha Noi – Hai Phong and Quang Ninh. It has borders with Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Hung Yen provinces and Hai Phong- the Port city.

Hai Duong province has the monsoon tropical climate, hot and humid with four identical seasons; the annual temperature is 23-degree census; the annual humidity is from 78 to 87%; the annual average rainfall is from 1,500 to 1,700 mm. According the statistic data, since 1972 up to present, Hai Duong has not badly damaged by flood of rains and of storms.

Hai Duong has huge potential for production of construction material. Such as limestone with the reserve of about 200 million tones, clay for fireproof materials production with the reserve of about 8 million, kaolin - the main raw material for pottery and porcelain production with the reserve of about 400,000 tons; bauxite ore for grindstone and industrial grind powder with the reserve of 200,000 tons. These natural resources mainly locate in Chi Linh and Kinh Mon districts.

Population and work force

Hai Duong province has 10 districts, 01 town and 01 city with the population of about 1.8 million people, of which over 60% are within the working age; The high ratio of the population (about 84.5%) live in the rural areas and mainly earn their livelihood by farming. This will become the important workforce for investement projects.

Natural land areas

The natural land areas of the province is about 1,652sq.km. The topography is gradually low down from the Northwest to the South- East. Hai Duong province comprises of two main regions: the mountainous area (the highland) and the flat area. The mountainous area, which accounts for about 11% of the total natural land area of the province and mainly covers the two districts of Chi Linh and Kinh Mon, is suitable for the construction of the industrial and tourist establishments, planting the fruit trees, the timber trees and a variety of industrial trees. The plain area, which accounts for 89% of total natural land area, at the average of 3-4 meter high above the sea level, even and flat terrain, fertile soil is suitable to plant the food trees, the foodstuff trees and the industrial trees in short term.

Transportation system and infrastructure

Transport system in Hai Duong province is very convenient including the roads (National Road No 5A, No.183, 18...), the railways (route Ha Noi – Hai Phong which satisfy the demand of good through 7 stations in the local and alongs the railway. This route will be soon upgraded and modernized) and the waterways (the riverway is 400 km long which is very easy for 500 tons of vessels and boats. Cong Cau port with capacity of 300.000 tons per year and ports system that satisfy the demand of waterway transportation in an convenient way.

Hai Duong nears two airports: Noibai International airport in Ha Noi capital and Cat Bi airport in Haiphong, and the transport axe of the Con Minh (China) – Ha Noi - Quang Ninh runs through Hai Duong province.

Socio - economic - cultural

In 2013, although facing with a lot of difficulties and challenges, but with the effort of provincial leaders and local authorities, the provincial economic growth rate is higher than the previous year. Total products in the local estimated to reach 46.397 billion VND, increased 7,1% compare to the previous year. The production value of industrial and construction estimated to reach 78.566 billion VND, increased 8,8% compare to the previous year. The production value of agriculture – forestry – fishery estimated to reached 15.584 billion VND, increased 0,1% compare to the previous year.

The economic growth rate is from 7% to 7,5%, the economic structure of agriculture, forestry & fishery – industry & construction – services: 16,5% - 48,5% - 35,0%, respectively. The average total of GDP per capita in the local reach 38,5 million VND. State budget collection estimated to reach 5.450 billion VND.

Hai Duong one of the main cultural and spirit areas of the country. Hai Duong has 1.098 historical relic places, of which 133 relics are nationally ranked and many others are special ranked such as Con Son, Kiep Bac… Some beautiful and famous tourist destinations are: Con Son – Kiep Bac, Kinh Chu cave – An Phu temple, Chu Dau – My Xa pottery and porcelain relic, Chi Lang Nam stork island etc.
